Happy New Year! Just wanted to let you know that I’ve started a new project for 2015 with my dear friend Sheri. It’s a year of letters (and photos and inspiration). You can find the new project titled “To S and From S” or “To’s and From’s” right here.

I’ll be sure to check in here from time to time here to upload my latest reads or to post a series of photos, but most of my time will be dedicated to the new project.

Melissa asked me for a list of my favorite books of 2014, and I thought I’d oblige. I think my overall favorite book of the year would have to be Lila by Marilynne Robinson. Other books I also enjoyed:

Department of Speculation by Jenny Offill

A Constellation of Vital Phenomena-Anthony Marra

My Struggle, Book 1 and 2-Karl Ove Knausgaard

All the Light We Cannot See-Anthony Doerr

Green Girl-Kate Zambreno

We Are Not Ourselves-Matthew Thomas

10:04-Ben Lerner

Station Eleven-Emily St. John Mandel

DSC_0006We have snow, oh yes we do!

I love it, but I’m pretty fearful of winter driving. This week I had to drive in the middle of a big storm, and it was terrifying, but I did it.  It helps to remember that there are so many others who live here and do it daily, too. It can be done! Good studded snow tires help as does a car with traction control. I have both and am grateful for that.

This morning the snow has stopped, and everything is lovely and blue and silver. Snow outlines the branches of the trees, and the deer stopped by this morning to nibble on the acorns in our backyard.

Joshua Tree

j2 j3j5j7j8j9j10j11j12j13j14j15j16j17j18j19Part of my Thanksgiving vacation was spent in Joshua Tree. I have always wanted to visit, and I felt an immediate connection with the landscape. My brother-in-law has a Jeep, so we were able to take an off-road trail that allowed us some amazing views. The park was super crowded, but as soon as we took the Pinkham Canyon Trail Road, we were alone in the desert landscape. It was pretty magical.
